There is a special kind of magic that unfolds when a wedding blends fall beauty with a genuinely laid-back atmosphere. It’s the kind of celebration where every detail feels seasonal and elevated, yet every guest feels completely at ease, ready to celebrate. This was the exact feeling at Jacqueline and Blake’s wedding—a day inspired by the untamed, vibrant beauty of wildflowers and designed to be an absolute blast from start to finish. It was a perfect fusion of effortless elegance and pure fun.
From our very first design meeting, it was clear that Jacqueline and Blake wanted a day that was colourful, fun, and full of life, a true reflection of their relationship. We channeled this joyful energy into a modern wildflower theme, using the iconic Winnipeg Art Gallery as a canvas for a rainbow palette with a focus on a rich, burnt orange hue, various textures, and statement design pieces. The goal was to create an immersive experience that felt both personal and spectacular. The result was a relaxed, artful celebration that perfectly mirrored their warm and fun-loving personalities.
An Artistic Ceremony Setting
The evening began as guests arrived at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, where they were immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of intimate romance. The architectural grandeur of the gallery was softened with dimmed lighting, creating a serene mood. The soft, melodic sounds of a live guitarist and vocalist filled the air, providing a beautiful and welcoming prelude to the heartfelt ceremony. This thoughtful first impression set the stage for an evening that was as much about feeling as it was about aesthetics.
For the ceremony's focal point, we moved away from traditional structures to create something truly unique. A modern copper pole chuppah stood as the centrepiece, elegantly draped in soft ivory linen. Delicate greenery vined its way up the copper posts, interwoven with colourful, wispy flowers and we lined the aisle with brass holders and candles for some mood lighting. To make the space feel more immersive and lush, we lined the back row of guest chairs with matching wispy floral arrangements. This design choice beautifully complemented the chuppah and made the entire space feel like a secret garden hidden within the gallery’s modern walls. It was a stunning, artful backdrop against which Jacqueline and Blake exchanged their vows, surrounded by the love of their family and friends.
A Grand Cocktail Hour with Personal Touches
Following the ceremony, the celebration flowed down the WAG’s iconic grand staircase for cocktail hour. This architectural marvel later served as the stage for the couple's spectacular grand entrance at the start of the reception, a truly cinematic moment as they descended into a room filled with their cheering loved ones. It was a transition that felt both natural and incredibly momentous.
As guests entered the cocktail space, they were met by a statement, floor-standing seating chart that was a piece of art in its own right, immediately signaling the artistic and personalized nature of the evening. We believe in sustainable design, and a key part of that is repurposing florals. We found new homes for the colourful bridesmaid bouquets, using them to add fresh, vibrant touches to the welcome area. This space also featured a multi coloured card box, custom painted and a fun Polaroid guest book station, inviting guests to leave a snapshot and a message, creating a tangible book of memories for the couple.
As a truly unique wedding favour and a form of live entertainment, Jacqueline and Blake hired a live watercolourist to sketch portraits of their guests. This was an incredible hit. Guests were fascinated to watch the artist at work and thrilled to receive a beautiful, custom piece of art to take home. It was an interactive experience that provided a lasting, personal memento far beyond a traditional favour.
To ensure a smooth flow and happy guests with drinks in hand, we set up two bars in the lobby. Each bar top was styled with another repurposed bridesmaid bouquet and a custom menu featuring their signature cocktails—an “Empress 75” for her and a “Cherry Coke Zero” for him :) This playful detail was a perfect reflection of their individual personalities and a great conversation starter for guests as they mingled.
Wildflower Dreams at the Reception
The reception was where our wildflower vision truly exploded into a kaleidoscope of colour and texture. The goal was to create beautiful, energetic pops of colour at every turn, evoking the feeling of a sprawling meadow in full bloom right inside the gallery. The tablescapes were designed to feel collected and personal. Bold, colourful floral stationery popped against the linens, and unique thrifted coloured goblets from Something Borrowed at each place setting added a touch of vintage charm and individuality to the tables.
Jacqueline and Blake were seated at a magnificent 18-person head table that acted as the anchor in the centre of the room, putting them right in the heart of their celebration. A deep, rust-coloured linen grounded the design, providing a rich foundation for the florals. Five long and low floral clusters in a rainbow of oranges, pinks, and blues ran the length of the table, creating a lush runner. Tucked between the arrangements, colourful taper candles in textured holders cast a warm, dynamic glow over the wedding party. We once again repurposed ceremony elements, placing the two large floral pieces from the chuppah on the ground behind the table to create a layered and grounded floral backdrop.
Guest tables were arranged around this central head table, each featuring a colourful and wispy wildflower arrangement designed in a loose, circular shape. From the centre of the flowers, a trio of taper candles rose at varying heights, adding dimension and soft, ambient light to the room. Each place setting included a beautifully designed, double-sided menu and a fun-facts card about the couple, encouraging connection and laughter amongst the guests. It was these small, intentional details that made the large, grand space feel intimate and personal.
Sweet Details and Lasting Memories
The show-stopping moments didn’t end with the tables. A grand sweets table became a major focal point, featuring a delightful array of desserts adorned with real, edible, colourful flowers. We used an assortment of vintage cake trays to display the treats at different heights, and a lush greenery garland wound its way through the display for an organic, overgrown feel. The cutting cake itself was given its own special place of honour, prominently positioned on a table framed by a gorgeous floral ring. The back of the statement seating chart wall was decorated in a vibrant floral print, serving as a colourful and energetic backdrop for the cake display and creating a perfect photo-op moment for the couple.
Jacqueline and Blake’s wedding was a beautiful tapestry of vibrant colour, rich texture, and deeply personal touches. It was a day that celebrated their love in the most authentic way—surrounded by beauty, laughter, and all the people who matter most. It was a testament to the idea that a laid-back atmosphere and stunning design can go hand-in-hand, creating a celebration that is as heartfelt as it is beautiful.
